Calculations
For roughly square or rectangular ponds use this formula:
Length x Width x Average Depth x 7.5 = Gallons
Example:
A rectangle pond 85' long by 45' wide with an average depth of 4'.
85 x 45 x 4 x 7.5 = 114,750 Gallons of water
For roughly circular ponds, use this formula:
Diameter x Diameter x Average Depth x 6 = Gallons
Example:
A circular pond 200' across with an average depth of 6 feet.
200 x 200 x 6 x 6 = 1,440,000 Gallons of water
For roughly elliptical ponds, use this formula:
Length x Width x Average Depth x 6 = Gallons
Example:
An elliptical pond 225' long by 85' wide with an average depth of 3'.
225 x 85 x 3 x 6 = 344,250 Gallons of water
Irregularly shaped ponds should often be treated as two or three separate ponds. Please note the drawings below for recommendations on Floating Fountain, Pond Aerator, or Water Circulator placement.
