For effective pond or lake aeration and algae control, it is very important to match the proper Kasco Floating Fountain, Pond Aerator or Water Circulator with the pond or ponds you wish to aerate. Click you can use our interactive Pond Sizing Calculator and our Unit Selection Calculator.
A quick rule of thumb is as follows
- 1hp per acre for high oxygen transfer, "AF", pond aerator models
- 1.5hp per acre for the VFX Series Aerating Fountains
- 2hp per acre for the JF Series Aerating Fountains
- Exception: the 4400VFX and 4400HVFX will aerate a 3/4 acre area due to the more efficient 4 blade prop
- Water Circulator, "CF", sizing varies with pond shape and size more than the "AF", "VF", and "JF" models and should be discussed with a distributor

Calculations
For roughly square or rectangular ponds use this formula:
Length x Width x Average Depth x 7.5 = Gallons
Example:
A rectangle pond 85' long by 45' wide with an average depth of 4'.
85 x 45 x 4 x 7.5 = 114,750 Gallons of water
For roughly circular ponds, use this formula:
Diameter x Diameter x Average Depth x 6 = Gallons
Example:
A circular pond 200' across with an average depth of 6 feet.
200 x 200 x 6 x 6 = 1,440,000 Gallons of water
For roughly elliptical ponds, use this formula:
Length x Width x Average Depth x 6 = Gallons
Example:
An elliptical pond 225' long by 85' wide with an average depth of 3'.
225 x 85 x 3 x 6 = 344,250 Gallons of water
